WATCH: Mel Gibson Jokes About His Latest Angry Rant

If Mel Gibson feels any shame about his latest expletive-laden rant, he's certainly hiding it well. During a visit to The Tonight Show on Friday, the tantrum-prone actor joked about the recording that hit the Internet last week, which contains two-and-a-half minutes of Mel screaming at screenwriter Joe Eszterhas. And as far as Gibson is concerned, Eszterhas is the one who should be ashamed. Watch the interview below!

Justin Bieber Pictured In Studio With Kanye West

<P>Perhaps Kanye West doesn't have to sleep like the rest of us mere mortals. That might explain how the rapper is seemingly everywhere at once these days: squiring <a href="/news/articles/1683892/kim-kardashian-kanye-west-romance.jhtml">Kim Kardashian all over New York</a>, shooting a mysterious <a href="/news/articles/1683847/kanye-west-kid-cudi-video-project-middle-east.jhtml">mini-movie in Qatar</a>&#8232; and popping into a recording studio to work on tracks with pal <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>. </P><P> </P><P>While the 18-year-old pop star has been wrapping up work on his upcoming album, <a href="/news/articles/1683335/justin-bieber-believe-the-voice.jhtml"><I>Believe</I>,</a>&#8232; due out June 19, he got a visit from West. Bieber's bodyguard Kenny Hamilton confirmed the superstar summit, <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/KennyHamilton/status/196040151489724416" target="_blank">tweeting out a photo</a> of the pair working together on an unspecified song. </P><P> </P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:754722/cp~vid%3D754722%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A754722" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed> </P><P> </P><P>"Putting the finishing touches on the album and it's gonna be special," he wrote while posting an Instagram pic of West tapping away on a laptop in the studio with Bieber in the background. He followed with a post that appeared to be another enthusiastic response to the studio get-down, writing, "Also witnessed a current legend and one future legend make magic once again ... I love this thing we call music!" </P><P> </P><P>Bieber's been giving his fans plenty of tantalizing sneak peeks over the past week. In addition to announcing the release date during an appearance on "The Voice," he also brought along a teaser for his as-yet-unreleased "Boyfriend" video. After that glimpse, he was spotted <a href="/news/articles/1683642/justin-bieber-boyfriend-music-video-kiss.jhtml">shooting new scenes</a>&#8232; for the highly anticipated clip in which he was kissing a mystery brunette on set. </P><P> </P><P>"The concept of this video, I mean, it's not like a steady concept," Bieber <a href="/news/articles/1682156/justin-bieber-explains-boyfriend-video.jhtml">told MTV News</a>&#8232; while shooting the video back in March. "It's not like 'Justin follows this girl to this spot.' No, it's a bunch of amazing scenes: like a fire scene, we have an ice scene. </P><P> </P><P>"It's kind of like bouncing back and forth," he said. "And then there's scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It's fun." </P><P>He also tweeted out the <a href="/news/articles/1684079/justin-bieber-believe-album-cover.jhtml">cover art</a>&#8232; on Friday, a simple black-and-white close-up of his face with the word "BELIEVE" stamped in a yellow caution-tape font underneath. The album will reportedly feature a song reacting to the <a href="/news/articles/1683857/justin-bieber-believe.jhtml">paternity suit</a>&#8232; filed by a 20-year-old California woman who claimed she became pregnant with Bieber's baby after a brief bathroom hook-up at an October 2010 concert; the suit was dropped in November. </P><P> </P><P>In addition to whatever Kanye and Bieber cooked up, the album will also feature a <a href="/news/articles/1683050/justin-bieber-taylor-swift-collaboration.jhtml">duet with Taylor Swift</a>&#8232;, as well as magic made with Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine and Drake.</p>

Judd Apatow's 'This Is 40' Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd are back as Debbie and Pete, picking up in their marriage where they left off in "Knocked Up."
By Fallon Prinzivalli

Ever wonder what happened to Alison's sister and brother-in-law from "Knocked Up"? The dynamic duo of Debbie (Leslie Mann) and Pete (Paul Rudd) had a few key scenes in the film, including Debbie taking Alison (Katherine Heigl) to the club where she meets Seth Rogen's character.

Now Judd Apatow aims to brings us back into the lives of the couple as Debbie celebrates her 40th birthday in "This Is 40." Continually lying about her age as she refuses to accept it, Debbie wonders if she's living the best life possible and decides she and Pete need to make some changes.

"I've made a list," she tells her husband in a scene from the trailer, which was released on Friday (April 27). "It's the 'do-better' list. We're 40 years old, if we don't do it now, when are we going to do it?"

Read on for more on five key scenes from the clip!

Counting the Rings
At the gynecologist's office, the nurses try to figure out if Debbie was born in 1972, '74 or '75 since her paperwork lists a range of dates of birth. When Debbie finally blurts out, "I lie about my age, OK? OK?" her gynecologist responds, "I know how old you are. I'm counting the rings." And with that line, we know typical Apatow humor will be on display in this flick. After that exchange, Debbie decides it's time for a change and makes a list of the top three things she and her husband need to focus on now that they're in their 40s: exercise, the kids' education and being patient.

Exercise Everyday
In one scene, Debbie works with a personal trainer, which allows the filmmakers to bring back Jason Segel's "Knocked Up" character, also named Jason. "I can turn your body into a boner machine," he tells Debbie. When she points out that every woman gives him a boner, he replies, "Don't sell yourself short, before adding in a whisper, "Barb doesn't give me a boner." Looks like Jason's crush on Alison's sister never went away.

Get Involved in School
As Pete confronts a mother whose son is picking on his daughter, "Bridesmaids" star Melissa McCarthy makes a cameo as the confrontational mommy. She tells Pete to get his daughter's meds right and Pete calls her son an animal. When Pete gives her shoulder a little shove, she screams, "You touched my nipple!" When he tells her he merely touched her below her shoulder, she replies, "I have very high nipples!" How Rudd kept from breaking into laughter during that scene is beyond us.

More Patience With the Kids
Another key scene opens with Pete and Debbie's daughters pulling each other's hair as they fight in the back seat of the car. It then cuts to them at the dinner table, where Debbie announces they're cutting back on the girls' gadget use so they'll spend more time outside. She suggests instead that they build a fort, to which the exasperated eldest daughter exclaims, "And do what in the fort?" When Debbie says, "You don't need technology," the youngest daughter holds an iPhone up to her mouth and says, "No technology," as a monkey on the screen mimics her words.

Payback Time
The final scene shows Pete spread-eagle on a bed, holding a mirror up to his crotch trying to look at ... something. (We honestly don't want to know what.) When he asks Debbie to take a look, she asks if they can just keep a small shred of mystery in their relationship. Pete replies, "I saw you have babies — payback time." At least being in your 40s isn't boring.

"This Is 40" is set to hit theaters Christmas 2012.

Republic Wireless now issuing invites for summer beta program: is your name on the list?

Image

Republic Wireless is now issuing the cellphone equivalent of Willy Wonka's golden tickets: an invite to its forthcoming beta. When you've been assigned a wave, you'll then be placed on a wait list, only told a week before you have to place cash on the barrel for a handset. Our tipsters have told us that the company is pitching (via a survey, of course) to hit three price points for customers, each fee buying a smartphone and the first month's service. All they could supply were the specs, so we've suggested some handsets that could fit the bill:

  • Entry Level: $199 gets a phone from an "unknown" manufacturer with a 3.5-inch touchscreen, 600MHz CPU, 0.5GB of storage and a 5-megapixel camera -- which puts us in mind of the ZTE Libra or the iNQ Cloud Touch.
  • Mid-range: $299 will buy a handset from a "well known" manufacturer, 3.7-inch touchscreen, 1GHz CPU, 1GB storage, 5-megapixel camera and a VGA front-facer, similar to the Galaxy U, HTC One V or Huawei Vision.
  • Top Line: $499 gets you a 4.3-inch touchscreen phone with a 1.2Ghz dual-core CPU, 8GB storage and, weirdly, a 7-megapixel camera. We hope that last stat is a typo, since it rules out the vast majority of handsets at that level. If it was 8-megapixels, for example, we'd be thinking about phones like the Galaxy S II.

We reached out to the company for more details, and were told that it's simply in a discovery phase of sorts -- it's still trying to get a better grasp on exactly what phones would be desired. Unfortunately, that means that there aren't any concrete handset decisions to be shared just yet, but we'll be sure to pass those along as soon as we find out ourselves.

[Thanks, Matt]

DIY Cellphone has the footprint of an ice cream sandwich, definitely doesn't run ICS (hands-on)

Image

Building your own wireless communications device isn't for the faint of heart, or the law-abiding -- the FCC tends to prefer placing its own stamp of approval on devices that utilize US airwaves, making a homegrown mobile phone an unlikely proposition. That didn't stop a team at the MIT Media Lab from creating such a DIY kit, however. Meet the Do-It-Yourself Cellphone. This wood-based mobile rig, while it's currently in the prototype phase (where it may indefinitely remain), would eventually ship with a circuit board, control pad, a fairly beefy antenna and a monochrome LCD. Sounds like it'd be right at home at some kid's garage workshop in the early '80s, not showcased at an MIT open house. The argument here is that people spend more time with their phone than with any other device, so naturally they'd want to build one to their liking. Nowadays, folks expect their pocketable handset to enable them to not only place and receive phone calls, but also store phone numbers, offer a rechargeable battery, and, well, in some cases even send and receive email, and surf the web -- none of which are available with such a kit.

The prototype we saw was fully functional. It could place calls. It could receive calls. There was even Caller ID! The phone does indeed feel homemade, with its laser-cut plywood case and a design that lacks some of the most basic gadget essentials, like a rechargeable battery (or at very least some provisions for replacing the 9-volt inside without unscrewing the case). Audio quality sounded fine, and calls went out and came in without a hitch -- there's a SIM card slot inside, letting you bring the nondescript phone to the carrier of your choice. Does it work? Yes. Is it worth dropping $100-150 in parts to build a jumbo-sized phone with a microscopic feature set? No, there's definitely nothing smart about the DIY Cellphone. If you want to throw together your own handset, however, and not risk anyone questioning the legitimacy of your homemade claim, you might want to keep an eye out for this to come to market. The rest of you will find everything you need in the video just past the break. We're just happy to have walked away without any splinters.
